History

In 1998 the congregation of Blackrock Methodist Church left the building to be used for youth work in the local area. A small group of young adults from nearby churches took on the project and began a teenage disco called bounce. This aimed to provide a safe place for young people to come at the weekend. Activities at Urban Junction then grew to include a Friday night youth group for children, homework clubs and drops in times. These were overseen by a manager and gap year team. In 2003 the building was renovated to make it more suitable for community activities. Since then Urban Junction has grown to include a programme for adults as well as young people, with the building open nearly every day. The building still maintains a Christian focus with a fortnightly service taking place on a Sunday evening (please see www.urban-junction.com/ignite for more info).
